Something Pretty} Jacqui at Click Knits

Jacqui from Click Knits- an Etsy store, has a lot to offer newborn photographers.  She has an extensive store, and some really CUTE hats and wraps- if you go shopping you are sure to find something you will love.  Maybe your next favorite prop is just sitting there… waiting for you to buy it~! :0)

How long have you been making this craft/selling on Etsy?

 – My shop has been online about 11 months

What inspired you to create your shop?

 – I was working part time as an assistant to a photographer, and after knitting a few samples for her, started noticing how big this new trend was.  At the same time I had a booth at my local farmer’s market selling knitting goods and handpainted onesies, but that was a tough market!
Where did you learn to knit?

 – after the birth of my second baby, my 90 year old grandmother was visiting me, and together we started knitting all sorts of baby things.  Really, she taught me when I was little, and then refreshed my skills for me.  After that, I really used Youtube a lot to learn certain techniques, and joined a local knitting circle to get some answers too.

What is your favorite part of creating crafts/owning an Etsy shop?

 – I absolutely love to see my clients’ pictures when they’ve used a knitted item of mine.  That is the biggest payoff!  I also love the design aspect – finding new and exciting yarns, and imagining what can be done with them.
Why did you choose to make things for babies?

 – Partly because I had two babies in my household, and also because of my own aspirations to be a photographer (currently shelved, due to Etsy!)
What do you like about being an Etsy seller?

 – The Etsy interface is very easy to use, and I get a lot of traffic on Etsy.  They have so many tools for sellers.  They have really revolutionized crafty people and allowed many of them to earn a living wage from home, doing what they love to do.
What has been your greatest learning experience?

 – I hate to say it, but my hardest lesson was accepting that sometimes, no matter what, you just can’t please everyone.
How are you different from other Etsy sellers?

 – I hope my customers will agree that they can count on me for good customer service, original design, and a genuine desire to please them.

What was your childhood nickname? Does anyone still call you by it?

 – Most of my cousins called (and still call) me Jacks, and my parents called me Jackson.  Urgh!
Favorite movie?

  - Harold and Maude.  It’s such an oldie but goodie!
What was your best vacation ever?

 – As a child, going to the Cape (in South Africa) to visit my cousins and spending every day running around on the mountainside and on the beach.
Favorite TV show?

 – So sad to admit – American Idol!  But I love Desperate Housewives too:-)

What songs are on your playlist?

 – Oh dear – I do admit that at the end of each busy day with my two small kids, I love the sound of pure and utter silence – and the click click click of my knitting needles!

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?

 – Before having kids and becoming a professional knitter, I was a geologist and worked in the field of contaminated groundwater and nuclear waste.
